The Art of NOTE MAKING Is Essential For Your Competitive Success. Read This To Find Out Why?

Many students are among them who don't make their notes. If you are one of them, you must read the full blog and start preparing your notes. Here you will be acquainted with the importance of Note making and the best way to prepare a good note. Note-making is one of the crucial things to do during your exam preparation. Notes are simplified forms of concepts and understanding written in a simple language. It is prepared to deal with big and grinding topics easily. It helps in easy memorization of principal points/topics/concepts.

Importance of Note-making:

  • Easy revision: Notes help in the easy revision of principal concepts because it is in your language. It involves the self-designed way of understanding a topic/concept. It involves short tricks, mind maps, flow charts, etc. You can smoothly revise again and again.

  • Time and energy conservation: The Note consists of different concepts/tricks/pieces of information from distinct books. So, you don't need to visit various bulky books to find a specific topic/concept. Hence, it helps to save lots of time and effort.

  • Last-minute helter-skelter minimization: When exams are near, there is a need to revise. Without the notes, you will have to study the whole book in less time. At that instance, you may forget to do crucial topics, reactions, theorems, etc. It will lead to an increase in your stress and fear. You will be in the condition of thinking whether you have completed the full revision or not. Notes help in minimizing the helter-skelter at the last stage of your preparation.

  • Easy memorization: It is generally prepared after understanding the concepts and topics. So, it will help you in easy memorization.

Note-making:

After knowing the importance of notes, you must prepare your notes. Some students seek the notes of other students who have already qualified for the exam. It will not confer any advantages to you because it is according to his way of understanding. You may go for such notes if you don't have time for it. But, if you have enough time, then try to prepare your own. Here, I will mention what I feel about the importance of notes. Let us assume we have to study a topic. I started reading the book and tried to understand the same. I read 1-2 times and understood the chosen topic. I then highlighted the principal points and solved questions based on that topic. I made mistakes and again read that topic and tried to sort out the problem. Now, I can solve each type of question from this topic. At this moment, I will go for making the note. I have completed the note-making process. During this interval, I have faced that topic at least 5-6 times. And now, I don't need much effort to learn the same. I have mentioned this example to show the importance of note-making. Try this study pattern. So, the way you approach your study makes the differences in the marks and ranks.

Note-Making in Physics:

  • Prepare notes comprising principal formulas and their derivation, theorems, and their application.
  • It should not contain the easy-peasy formulas and their derivation that you have been studying from lower classes. It will create the note bulky and will be like a burden at the time of revision. These formulas are already well settled in your mind. You may note it down simply according to your requirement. For example - Equations of motion
  • You must note the crucial tricks, shortcuts, and special conditions. It plays a chief role in time management.

  • It also includes the concepts, formulas, or shortcuts which you missed during the mock tests. Furthermore, it may be in the skipped questions, wrong attempts, or overtime attempted questions.

Note-making in Chemistry:

  • Physical Chemistry: Note making of Physical chemistry is almost similar to that of Physics. In both, the subject mainly includes formulas.
  • Inorganic chemistry: Inorganic chemistry mainly includes learning topics. It will be easier when you go for a comparative study. I mean taking the bulk at a time and trying to follow the usual trend, for example, the study of Physical properties of p-Block elements. If you study it individually, you will have to learn the properties like atomic radii, ionization enthalpy, electronegativity, etc., at least five times. But, if you study them by understanding the trend, it will take very little time. You will have to sort out the exceptions only. Similarly, you may learn the properties of Group 1 and 2 elements comparatively.
Example:
Property - Atomic radii - Trend: Increases down the group - Considerable increase from Period 2 to period 3, but from period 3 to 6, there is a slight increase due to filled d and or f-orbital in heavier elements.

Exception: Group 13 - Radii of Ga is smaller than radii of Aluminium - Poor screening by d- electrons in Ga

  • The use of mnemonics in inorganic chemistry makes it simple. You may use this tool for examples that are difficult for you. You can use mnemonics for learning periodic tables, activity series, electrochemical series.
Example: Alkali Metals: Little Nasty Kids Rub Cats Fuwhere 'L' of Little represents Lithium, 'N' of nasty is for Sodium, 'K' of Kids for Potassium, 'R' of rub for Rubidium, and 'F' of fur for Francium.

  • Furthermore, you may also form flow charts for many reactions and processes.
  • Organic chemistry: Note making of organic chemistry is similar to that of inorganic chemistry. Firstly, deal with General organic chemistry. You may use the mnemonic for learning different types of groups like +I group, -I group, etc.
  • Separately note down the Physical properties, Preparation, and Chemical Properties. It will help you in easy learning.
  • Collect the named reactions and miscellaneous reactions and note them down separately.

Note-making in Biology:

  • The use of different tools in the note-making of Biology will help you in easy memorization.
  • The use of mnemonics for learning examples is beneficial. You can use them mainly for the chapters like Biological Classification, Plant Kingdom,  Animal Kingdom, Morphology of flowering plants, etc.
  • Flow charts and diagrams for Human Physiology and Plant Physiology will be best for learning the concepts effortlessly.

Note-making in Mathematics:

  • Note down the principal formulas, particular cases, and processes for solving the problems.
  • You may also note down the back-breaking problems with their solutions. These will be beneficial for you at the last moment.

Note-making tips:

  • Don't make notes the first time. Firstly, try to understand the concept and then prepare short notes.
  • Keep your notes simple and shorter.
  • Use different color pens.
  • It's better to prepare notes on sheets rather than on notebooks. It will help you in easy revision and time conservation.
  • After each topic leave some gaps so, that in the future you can add some more crucial points.
  • Use different tools like mnemonics, flow charts, tables, and diagrams.
